The reading session is followed by a writing session in which the patients initially write about themselves and then answer questions based on the 12 Steps. The input session is taken by the doctor himself or the counselor. Lunch is followed by rest time in which the patients can relax and nap. This if followed by Group Discussion in which what ever topic was taught in the input, the patients relate to their own lives and share about themselves. This is followed by free time in which indoor and outdoor games are encouraged for all round physical development. Three times in a week the patients write their thoughts and feelings of the day and share them with the counselor in a group and receive feedback. This is a very important session as the disease of alcoholism and addiction is directly related to feelings. There is a mock AA/NA in house meeting and dinner is again followed by meditation to ensure a restful end to the day. This is how the day is structured and the basis of therapy is group and behavior therapy. The aim of all the sessions is to make the person realize that the way he was drinking alcohol or using drugs is wrong and it is in his best interest to give it up. We have a cliche that it is not difficult to stop but difficult to stay stopped and that is what we teach in therapy, i.e., how to stay stopped and prevent any relapses as the nature of disease is that it is a chronic and releasable disease.
