Then we have a special category in which there are rooms on a double and triple sharing basis, with an air conditioner and an attached wash room. There is also a TV in the room to watch in free time. Most of the time is taken up in sessions which the patients are expected to attend after their detox and that is wake up at 7, do yoga and meditation. Three times in a week the patients write the thoughts and feelings of the day and share them in a group with the counselor. Then the patients play volleyball or football in the evenings and later have an in house Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous meeting. Dinner is followed by television and there is meditation before lights out at 11. This is how the day is structured and the aim of the sessions is to make the patient realize that the way they were drinking alcohol or using drugs is wrong and it is in their own best interest to give it up. Then it is not difficult to stop but very difficult to stay stopped, so we teach them how to stay away from alcohol and drugs one day at a time.
